‘Frau Death' was the first song we ever played as a band. But with a real drummer and bass acting as something in between guitar and bass since we did not have a guitarist. We booked some studio time on a rehearsal room in Trastevere and that was it. When presented with the unavoidable stares of playing something I just let it go inspired by the sound that was coming out the amp. Switched on my beloved Boss distortion pedal coupled by the chorus and flanger (which I never ever thought of using before) of the Roland amp in the studio.
The melody came from a very likely Joy Division bass riff and “Temple Of Love” by The Sisters Of Mercy. The sisterian riff was dropped for too obvious reasons of course. When we finally found a guitarist he had to leave for military service.
The drummer left in order to concentrate on deejaying in the local clubs and the singer unexpectedly suggested to get a drum machine. This version was re-recorded for a
planned compilation that never materialized unfortunately.
The Vision Underground producer had given her blessing in us using it and eventually made it to our third demo.
