‘Cambiamenti' was written when the guitarist decided to move onto something different and a “human” drummer, who was also a friend of mine, tried out with us to see if a real
drummer could fit into the band. That was also when it did look like we were not prepared to leave the security of a drum pattern for the ever changing fills and dynamic feel of the real deal. Guitarist carried on with the drummer
eventually. We moved to an Atari sequencer. Also to fill in with some keyboards sounds. Singer wanted to write
something in italian and it did work out quite well in the end. By that time we were sharing a rehearsal room in the
basement of an old palace in the heart of Rome and we had a go at it. When the Vision Underground producer approached us with the idea of contributing to a compilation with two songs to better represent the sound of the participating bands, it was decided to record also this particular track but with real drums. Needless to say that I went crazy by the slight tempo variations of a real drummer and ended up nearly smashing the bass on the floor of the studio and
kicking it away from the amp I wanted to hit to pieces.
I survived the ire of the owner (the band on the other side of the recording booth made their best to calm him down) and I eventually made it to the last note of the bass overdubs I had completed only the night before in the middle of a party in the adjacent room that went well into the early morning.
I reckon I just was not fit for a studio session right then. Drummers tend to speed up and if you are not used to that it is a problem when recording. The mistakes are all there masked as atonal fills in the mix. But again there was no time to practice the song more and all the parts we added on the overdubs were just things we came up only days before.
It was the last track we wrote together. Luigi moved to his ‘Litania’ project and covering this track on their first
cassette demo. After that we started to move onto new
material (and rehashing the old songs for the live gigs at the same time) with Stefano, the new guitarist, and playing one last gig in the Summer before calling it a day with the original concept of the band. Enter the second chapter...
